What is ‘Shakha’

‘Shakha’ literally means the branch. It is the fundamental part of Shri Kshatriya Yuvak Sangh’s teachings. Volunteers of ShriKYS get together daily on a certain place at a certain time for one hour and practice ‘Sangh Sadhana’ based on Bhagwad Geeta’s principle of practice and dispassion. This practice gradually enables them to wield the ‘Sangh Darshan’ (philosophy of Sangh) in their life. Regularity and continuity are the main aspects of these Shakhas which are conducted for all sections such as boys, girls, elderly etc.

Components/Dimensions – In an ideal Shakha following components are included to develop and strengthen a volunteer’s physical, mental and spiritual personality :- 1. ‘Dhwaj Pranam’ (Salutation to the flag) 2. ‘Prarthana’ (Prayer) 3. ‘Sahgeet’ (Singing the songs written by Tan Singh Ji) 4. Games and Exercise 5. ‘Charcha’ (Discussion on a specific topic) 6. ‘Sankhya’ (counting) 7. ‘Mantra’ (Chants)

Categories – At present following categories of Shakha are available:
1. Ground Shakha – This is the main form of Shakha in which volunteers gather in an open ground and practice through all the above mentioned components.
2. Household Shakha – This form of Shakha is conducted with the aim to establish Sangh’s teachings in the families of volunteers. During this Shakha all members of family, at a suitable time, practice as many components as possible in the household environment.
3. Virtual – This form of Shakha is conducted through various means of Information Technology and is for those who can’t meet physically on daily basis due to various reasons.
4. Weekly – Though the main form of Shakha is a daily Shakha but in many cities where daily Shakha is not possible, volunteers organise Shakha once in a week which is called weekly shakha.

Count – There is no limit for minimum or maximum participants in shakha. Even if a single volunteer conducts shakha as per the procedure mentioned above and sends report of the same, it will be considered as shakha. If there are more than 25 participants in any shakha then the Shakha will be conducted by dividing volunteers in ‘Ghat’ and ‘Prithaka’ same as it is done in camps.

Responsibilities – For the smooth functioning of the Shakhas, three associates are appointed in a shakha namely Shakha Pramukh, Shikshan Pramukh and Vistar Pramukh. Shakha Pramukh’s responsibility is to provide guidance and directions for every aspect of the Shakha like a guardian. Shikshan Pramukh carries out the responsibility of providing teachings as per the pre-planned scheme of the Shakha. Vistar Pramukh works towards increasing the number of participants in Shakha by contacting irregular and potential volunteers.
